At the heart of this festive extravaganza is a series of candy-themed play areas, complete with bump cars, bikes, and a range of child-friendly activities. KISLAP acted as a catalyst for community unity, weaving a tapestry of togetherness among residents who, in their everyday lives, might have had different paths. It erased barriers and created a space where everyone felt included, fostering a sense of belonging that transcended individual differences.   But the true enchantment commenced on December 14th with nightly celebrations inspired by Disney’s cherished tales. The Grand Christmas Parade, featuring the town’s dedicated government employees, became a stage for unity and creativity. Each evening, the streets buzzed with lively performances, bringing to life the beloved stories of Disney princesses and cherished characters. Beyond the enchanting tales and vibrant performances of beloved Disney characters, these showcases were a testament to the town’s commitment to nurturing the talents of its young residents. By bringing these stories to life, the local government not only captivated audiences but also provided a platform for budding talents to shine. The Disney-themed presentations were a source of inspiration, showing children and young adults that with dedication, hard work, and passion, they too could showcase their talents on a grand stage. It was an encouragement for them to explore their artistic abilities, whether in dancing, singing, acting, or creative expression. Moreover, these presentations weren’t just fleeting performances; they were a catalyst for ongoing empowerment and encouragement. PARTNERSHIPS & OPPORTUNITIES Open Call for the KULAY TAGUMPAY CULTURAL FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM The Kulay Tagumpay Cultural Fellowship Program, initiated by the I Love Santa Cruz Collective, is a dynamic cultural exchange initiative designed to foster cross-cultural understanding, community engagement, and sustainable development in Santa Cruz, Marinduque. The program invites non-Marinduque residents, particularly college students and young professionals, to become cultural envoys and champions of community empowerment through joint endeavors that aspire to introduce and promote to the broader Philippine society the innovative community development initiatives and public-private sector collaborations in Santa Cruz, Marinduque. The Fellowship Experience Selected Kulay Tagumpay Fellows will undergo three phases of Fellowship activities culminating in a week-long all-expense paid travel and stay in Santa Cruz during the height of the town’s cultural activities – the Moriones Lenten Rites coinciding with the Catholic Holy Week.  Local Community Familiarization Webinars and Online Conversations Kulay Tagumpay Cultural Fellows will be asked to attend online sessions to dialogue with local community organizers and champions of sustainable development initiatives to understand the opportunities and challenges faced by participating sectors. Conduct of a Fellow’s Initiative to Support Santa Cruz Community Projects As the Fellow’s contribution to the promotion of Santa Cruz-based initiatives, each Fellow will be asked to implement in their respective communities a support project (with a fund-raising or familiarization component). Experiencing Moriones Lenten Rites in Santa Cruz During the Holy Week The highlight of the Fellowship Program is the Fellows’ travel to and week-long stay in Santa Cruz, Marinduque during the Moriones Lenten Rites Fellows’ Projects An integral part of the Fellowship is the ideation and collaborative implementation of a Fellow’s initiative in their own community which will introduce to a broader audience the programs of the I Love Santa Cruz Collective in partnership with the local government of Santa Cruz, Marinduque Community, Office or School Based Exhibition on Santa Cruz We expect our Kulay Tagumpay Fellows to assist us in setting up an exhibition of local Santakruzin culture, heritage, and creative initiatives, particularly the scheduled events for our upcoming Moriones Lenten Rites tradition in 2024. EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES ArtVenture Camp and Competition Highlights Local Artistry in Santa Cruz, Marinduque, Philippines For the past Saturdays since September, the ongoing ArtVenture Creative Makers Camp and Competition initiated by Santa Cruz, Marinduque Mayor Marisa Red-Martinez and operationalized by the local government’s Tourism and Public Affairs offices has been bringing together young artists of Santa Cruz on a quest to develop design prototypes for painted fashion apparel and merchandise that the local government will promote in collaboration with the I Love Santa Cruz Collective.  Prior to the competition proper, the young artists underwent an introductory module facilitated by the Santa Cruz Artists group led by Makapuyat National High School teacher Sherline Villaruel. Santa Cruz-based emerging artists Jesse Esplana and Averil Paras provided inputs during the preliminary workshops. Meanwhile, Manila-based fashion designer and celebrity stylist Monika Ravanera and I Love Santa Cruz Collective Chairman Ramfel Reynoso Preclaro whose Malindig Institute Foundation Arts and Props Club is a constant partner of the local government in designing public spaces and events delivered the workshop lectures on the interface of fashion, the use of textiles, and visual arts.  This initiative assumes particular significance in rural communities like Santa Cruz, where the arts often take a back seat at home due to financial constraints and limited access to resources. By facilitating an environment that nurtures artistic exploration and cultural expression, Mayor Marisa Red-Martinez’s vision and full support for the ArtVenture Camp and Competition is enabling inclusive access to materials, supplies, as well as information and training essential to the realization of young artists’ vision and creative pursuits.  To sustain the initiative, I Love Santa Cruz Collective is looking to partner with benefactors in the private sector and other charitable institutions with the resources needed to establish an artists space in the municipality. This envisioned arts and creative makers space aspires to provide free use of artistic materials and supplies to young artists in Santa Cruz while serving as a production hub for creative enterprises. With the goal of becoming self-sustaining in the future through entrepreneurial and revenue generating activities, the space will incubate social enterprises designed to bring about the best of Santa Cruz creativity through collaborative projects.  “Mayor Marisa Red-Martinez’s ArtVenture initiative operates as a cultural bridge by linking the town’s age-old tradition and cultural identity with modern expression, offering a contemporary take on the enduring Moriones heritage”, explained RR Rañeses, former Santa Cruz municipal administrator and Executive Director of I Love Santa Cruz Collective.  Beyond culture and fashion, ArtVenture is also serving as a bridge between artistic expression and market demands.
